Recent Earthquakes in Southern California - Today Earthquakes World Wide
On Saturday night as many people were out enjoying the weekend or sitting at home enjoying some quality time with families in Southern California, many earthquakes shook the area and spread a lot of worry. The earthquakes were consecutive and were of a considerable magnitude. The earthquakes hit the Borrego Springs Community.
According to the U.S. Geological department the first quake hit at 8 minutes past 8 o clock local time. The magnitude of the first rattler was 4.9. The second quake hit not more than 24 seconds later. This one was 4.5. These two were enough to cause a lot of damage in the community. The first quake hit at a depth in the ground amounting to 3.6 miles and located at around 9 miles out between north and northwest of the Borrego Springs area, 59 miles in the direction northeast of San Diego and 32 miles between south and southeast of the Palm Springs area. The second quake was not more than a mile away from the first.
The magnitudes of these earthquakes were not very low and could have caused some kind of property damage, but it was very fortunate that the Sheriff’s department didn’t receive any damage or injury calls from the community that was hit. People definitely felt the quakes and two back to back quakes had the potential to cause damage in an unsuspecting area, but the truth of the matter is that Southern California has been expecting quakes like this because of the similar quakes earlier.
