12:09am – Unfortunately, I have to call it a night without yet knowing who the second candidate in the Republican run-off for governor will be, but likely there will be a recount regardless of the initial outcome. Run Off for Williams-Pepper

Athens Mayor Dan Williams finished atop a three-man field in the Alabama House District 5 GOP primary, but he will now face Steve Pepper, a Madison County school bus driver, in a run-off.

Williams, 67, the long-time mayor of Athens, finished with 2,475 votes (49.55 percent), compared to 1,676 votes for Pepper (33.55 percent).

The run-off will be July 13.

Parker Griffith Trails

With just over 20 percent of precincts reporting in his Alabama district, freshman Representative Parker Griffith trails in his first primary as a Republican.

Madison County Commissioner Mo Brooks had 49 percent of the early returns, compared with 38 percent for Mr. Griffith.

Mr. Brooks will need to finish with over 50 percent in order to avoid a runoff. Regardless, Mr Brooks lead is tremendous blow to Representative Parker.
