Krishna Kumar Birla (1st death ceremony)

Dr. Krishna Kumar Birla (11 November 1918 – 30 August 2008) was a noted Indian industrialist of the Birla family, and the second son of Ghanshyam Das Birla. He also served as a Member of the Rajya Sabha. K.K. was one of the few noted industrialists who supported economic reforms in India in 1991.

In 1991, Birla established the K.K. Birla Foundation to promote Hindi literature and was the Chancellor of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science at Pilani.

Birla was the group chairman of the Zuari-Chambal group of companies with a turnover of Rs.10,000 crores. He was also the Chairman of ZUARI-CHAMBAL-PARADEEP, India's largest fertilizer combine in private sector.

Birla died on 30 August 2008 after a brief illness.

After the demise of Dr.Birla, his son-in-law Mr.S.K.Poddar have taken over as the chairman of Zuari-Chambal-Paradeep fertilizer combines. The sugar business is now headed by Mrs.Nandini Nopany, eldest daughter of Dr.Birla and Media group, Hindustan Times Media, is now chaired by Mrs.Shobhana Bhartia, Member of Parliament(Rajya Sabha). Mr.Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman-Aditya Birla Group and nephew of Dr.Birla, is the Chancellor of BITS-Pilani, the educational institutes of Birla Group, now.
