Movie Review : ORANGE

In order to give a break from the mass image to Ram Charan Teja, director Bommarillu Bhaskar has tried to portray his character as a ‘Lover Boy’ in Orange. To this extent, he made good efforts. However, Bhaskar has failed to select a good story for him and more so, he has tried to explain love in a new angle. He forget that love is not just mathematics and it can’t be calculated and measured as to increase and decrease in love with time gap. His concept is okay but the narration missed the bus. He confused the audiences and made them to grope in dark about the real subject in the movie.

Story:

Ram (Ram Charan Teja) stays with his sister (Manjula) and brother-in-law (Sanjay Swaroop) in Sydney. He thinks differently and lives in hiw own style. Ruba (Shazahn Padamsee) and Ram are in love. Like everybody she is too possessive about his love. She doesn’t like Ram smoking, roam around with his friends, even chitchatting with another girl friend. But to maintain good relationship, Ram lies around that he quit smoking, do not entertain any girl etc. At some point of time, it gives Ram a ill feeling an finally starts avoiding Ruba.

As a result, he comes to the conclusion that one should resort to lying and concealing facts often. When one wanted to be his real self, it is impossible to impress the other person in love with him/her. Ruba doesn’t like Ram smoking, roam around with his friends, even chitchatting with another girl friend who was away somewhere through SMSes, and other such issues. In order to please Ruba, he had to lie that he quit smoking, didn’t answer SMSes and off the friends. This gives an ill-feeling in Ram and he avoids Ruba to be his real self. He gives a serious thought that there is a proportionate inverse activity between longevity and love. As the time pass by, the intensity of love decreases. The love turns conditional and it makes both the lovers search for ‘reasons’ to separate.

As time passed by, Ram falls in love with nine girls and leave all of them. Then he comes across Jaanu (Genelia) who was in confusion as to whom she should love between three boys. Finally, Jaanu proposes Ram. But what happens next should be seen on-screen.

Performance:

Ram Charan has given an excellent performance all through the film. He has the entire responsibility to make the film attractive. The director has etched his character with new looks in all aspects including attire, make up, wardrobe, accessories. Ram looks superb and has has improved his body language to large extent. He has excelled in dialogue modulation. However, he has miserably missed the comedy timing. Genelia has a cute and chirpy look in the first half. Her performance before the interval bang is good to watch. But, after the intermission, she looks sober and has failed to impress the audiences. Shazahn Padamsee, who has made her debut in Tollywood, is good to watch. Her figure and physique are impressive. She has bright chances to secure more offers in Telugu film industry. Comedy by Avasarala Srinivas, Vennela Kishore and Brahmanandam are good in the film. Once again, Brahmanandam has given a healthy comedy in the film. Gayatri Rao appeared in a couple of scenes and she is okay. Prabhu, Sameer, Prakash Raj, Manjula and Sanjay Swaroop have done justice to their roles, while Madhurima flashed on screen for one scene and disappeared.

TECHNICAL:

Harris Jayaraj has given exemplary tunes to all the songs and the audio was a big success and the album proved a chart-buster even before the release of the film. He has worked well in re-recording too. Despite a good music, most of the songs in the film are impressive to watch. But for a couple of song, most of the numbers were not properly choreographed but the locations are good. Cinematography by D Rajasekhar and Kiran Reddy is just an average. They have done an excellent job by capturing the locales of Sydney. Editing by Marthand K Venkatesh should have been better and he should have trimmed some scenes in the second half. But director Bhaskar confused the audiences all through the film. The screeplay is not tight. But many of the scenes were abruptly ended giving a jerk. Audiences may not be able to understand his concept.

REMARKS:

The urban youth may understand the story to some extent but those who stay in villages and towns, especially the mass audiences can’t understand the concept totally and they would be in sheer confusion. Watch the film only for Ram Charan's new look and acting.

Cast:
Ram Charan Teja, Genelia D'Souza, Shazahn Padamsee, Brahmanandam, Avasarala Srinivas, Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Nagababu, Sanjay Swaroop, Vennela Kishore, Sameer, Madhurima, Gayatri Rao, Manjula, Pooja, Kalipika, Pragatika, and others.

Raavana Movie Review - Raavan Movie Review

Perhaps this is the most anticipated film in recent times. Rightly so given the cast and crew assembled. Produced and directed by Mani Ratnam, ‘Raavanan’ stars Vikram, Aishwarya Rai and Prithviraj in the lead roles. The other cast comprises Prabhu, Karthik, Priyamani, Ranjitha, Munna and others.

Movie & News Alerts on Mobile: Register Here

‘Raavanan’ is inspired from the Asokavanam episode in Ramayanam. It is a modern day version of the episode where Raavanan kidnaps Sita and keeps her in Asokavanam. Later Raman ventures to save his wife and bring her back.

The story of ‘Raavanan’ is said to be this. Dev (Prithviraj) is a police officer who falls in love with a classical dancer Ragini (Aishwarya Rai) and marries her. Post marriage Dev is posted in a tribal town controlled by Veera (Vikram) whose writs alone control the people of the town. Veera, the warlord is seen as challenger and the law enforcers lead by Dev believe the key to bringing order to the place is to crush Veera.

In an attempt to vanquish Vikram, Prithviraj misses the target and kills Priyamani who is the sister of Vikram. An infuriated, Vikram kidnaps Aishwarya Rai and takes her into the forest. This draws Prithviraj into the forest and the forest becomes their battle ground. The dense, confusing and scary jungle sets in motion a string of events which test their beliefs and change their fortunes.

When Prithviraj finds Aishwarya in the jungle he suspects her womanhood. A new battle then begins which becomes a battle between good and evil; Raavanan and Raman and at the end they all confront many truths. You can be sure of a startling climax typical of the creative genius Mani Ratnam.

So how are the characters in Ramanyam linked? Prithviraj plays a character inspired by Raman, Vikram enacts the role of Raavanan and Aishwarya the role of Sita. The supporting characters are also worked out something like this. Karthik is the modern day Hanuman and Munna is the brother Lakshmanan. Priyamani plays the role of Raavanan’s sister Soorpanakai. The role played by Prabhu and Ranjitha are not known yet.

‘Raavanan’ brings together Prabhu and Karthik after more than a decade. The have the same fire they had in ‘Agni Natchathram’. Vikram has said “Acting in ‘Raavanan’ is like being part of three Mani Ratnam projects, because, each and every scene was shot thrice” Aishwarya also has an equally powerful role. Probably this is the film which would bring out the real talents of Aishwarya.

The contemporary and modern Indian classical dancer Astad Deboo has choreographed a climactic life and death dance sequence with a tandav of passion, revenge and liberation for Ash. This is a fusion of kathak, ballet and contemporary dance which will show Ash in a new light.

The steps are complex and new and Ash had danced bare feet on slippery ground. She also did the steps twice over and in quick succession, first with Abhishek for the Hindi and then with Vikram for the Tamil.

Another surprise from Aishwarya is going to be her voice in Tamil. Ash has painstaking dubbed her voice for Tamil and nobody will be able to say she is not a Tamilian after hearing her speak. And making her more beautiful in the film is the celebrated fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee who has designed clothes for Ash in ‘Raavanan’.

The film was extensively shot in numerous locations around India including Pollachi, Ooty, Chalakudy, Athirapally of Kerala, Jhansi, Kolkata, Mahabaleshwar and in the Malshej Ghats in Maharashtra. Picturesque locations like the forest near the Athirapally waterfalls in Kerala is going to be real treat to the eyes. Athirapally waterfalls seem to be Mani’s favourite location as had filmed ‘Uyire’ song “Ennuyire”, and the ‘Guru’ song “Venmegam” at the same location earlier.

The cinematography is by Santosh Sivan, who replaced Manikandan as the cameraman and he has given the film a never before seen look and feel. Mani Ratnam – Santosh Sivan duo has worked wonders before in blockbuster like ‘Roja’, ‘Thalapathi’, ‘Iruvar’ and ‘Uyire’.

‘Raavanan’ has numerous action scenes of the Kerala martial art form kalarippayattu. Kalatipattu exponents Sunil and his brothers who have trained celebrities like SRK and Jackie Chan have composed the action scenes.

‘Raavanan’ is a tri-lingual also made simultaneously in Hindi as ‘Raavan’ and ‘Villain’ in Telugu. With Abhiskek Bachchan playing the title role and Vikram plays the role of Rama. Aishwarya Rai plays the role of Sita in all three versions.

Audience expects ‘Ravannan’ to be the best of Mani till date. By raising intriguing questions on the protagonist like did such a man ever exist? Is ‘Raavanan’ the line that divides Good from Evil? Is there a Ram inside Raavan? And a Raavan inside each of us? Mani Ratnam has opened our minds to question our conscience.

Music of the movie is composed by Oscar winner A R Rahman with lyrics penned by Vairamuthu. It features 6 songs and the music was soft launched on May 5 by Sony Music.

‘Raavanan’ is produced by Mani Ratnam under the banner of Madras Talkies at a budget of Rs. 55 crores. Being his home production, Mani Ratnam has not compromised anything for the quality. He has even brought specific dogs that look like wolves from Australia for a whopping Rs.3 crores for a particular scene.

‘Raavanan’ is distributed by Madras Talkies and Big Cinemas and will hit the screens on June 18, 2010.

Film got fantastic review from Taran Adarsh. He states ‘This one not only entertains, but also enlightens’. He praised Prakash Jha as ‘the personal, known for qualitative cinema and RAAJNEETI, his new offering, stands tall on the list’. He comments Ranbir as ‘Here's an actor who can give the best in the business sleepless nights’. Katrina also got applause as ‘First-rate performance. The sincerity and earnestness shows in every sequence. She sheds her glam doll image and transforms into an actor with this film’. Other remarkable performance as quoted by Tarun ‘Arjun is a revelation and what a terrific performance he pitches in. He's like an untamed lion. Manoj delivers his career-best performance. Raajneeti was first denied a censor certificate by the censor board of India for what they have thought as that the lead character played by Katrina Kaif in the film is inspired fully or partial from the Congress Party's Chief Sonia Gandhi. Director of the film, Prakash Jha dismissed this allegation, saying that only inspiration he has taken in the making of the film is from Mahabharta- an epic from ancient India. Reference to electronic voting machines and parts of the film suggesting that women have to compromise to get ahead in politics, crude dialogues about the Muslim community and some intimate scenes and excessive violence were also removed before giving the film a U/A censor certificate.

He plays the evil part superbly’. he ends his review with ' A film with Sweeping impact'.

Prince of Persia Movie Review - The Sands of Time

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a 2010 fantasy adventure film written by José Alberto Villa García, Boaz Yakin, Doug Miro, and Carlo Bernard, directed by Mike Newell, and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The film is loosely based on the 2003 video game of the same name, developed and released by Ubisoft Montreal.

The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Prince Dastan, Gemma Arterton as Princess Tamina, Ben Kingsley as Nizam, and Alfred Molina as Sheik Amar, this the first film directed by Mike Newell to be distributed by Disney (though he directed two films by Miramax Films, but that was before Disney Bought the company).

Despite the film being primarily based on The Sands of Time, elements from Warrior Within and The Two Thrones are also incorporated.

Review: Advance word suggests that Prince of Persia might be the first decent videogame-to-film adaptation. Jake Gyllenhaal is the Prince, leapin' and stabbin' his way across sandswept rooftops alongside Gemma Arterton's feisty princess. We still reckon Will Smith as the Fresh Prince of ... read morePersia would have been better.

Jerry Bruckheimer strolled on stage in front of the massive Leicester Square Odeon screen with the director Mike Newell and both men were thrown bubblegum questions by television's Alex Zane. Five minutes of obliged gushing followed: gushing about the film, gushing about its stars, gushing about each other. I half expected a man with a mop and bucket to follow these gentlemen on stage, such was the gushing. That's Hollywood, I guess.

The night before this press screening of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time ("PoP:TSoT") I had attended the BBC's election party, the consequence of which was getting only two hours' sleep, a monster hangover and the worst working day of my professional career to date. So I entered the cinema in a semi-vegetative state with an exhausting headache. It may have been because of this predicament that, against all expectations, I rather enjoyed the movie. Indeed, my mental activity was probably akin to that of the film's target audiences: children and video-gamers, no disrespect meant to either group.

PoP has been a popular platform computer game since the early 90s and this aspect of the character's history is represented faithfully in the film - it has a very gamey feel to it. Impressive parkour allows the Prince to leap around the film as if he were being controlled a skilled 'gamer'. The dialogue is, for the most part, cumbersome and lazy, just like the tedious interludes in a computer game when the play stops and you are transported into a conversation with an informative avatar, except in the film you can't press A to skip. There are little outcrops of humour in the script but these very much feel as though they have been crow-barred in to later drafts, rather than having been woven in to the original.

The plot goes a little like this. Prince Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) must run away from his family and his country as he has been falsely accused of doing a bad thing. For an unknown reason he grabs the Princess (Gemma Arterton) on his way out and whisks her away with him. So they start out on the run, being chased by angry Persians. At the beginning, of course, the Prince and the Princess don't seem to get along, as is the way with all uncreative screen romances but rest assured by the end of the film they get along famously. The main body of the film follows them desperately evading their hunters, getting into various scrapes along the way and it's all quite exciting, especially when the unit of menacing Persian black-ops 'Hassassins' are unleashed. The CGI-laden grand finale sequence is pure, unbelievable fantasy which cements the film in the 'children' genre.

PoP:TSoT was filmed in Pinewood Studios, England (and also in Morocco, Africa) so most of the cast are British. Perhaps this explains Gyllenhaal's use of an English accent - poor old Jake just wants to fit in with us Limeys. The accent is perfectly acceptable and his performance is good considering this is his first dig at an action hero. Arterton's face is well cast as the beautiful princess and her acting is less pouty than Bruckheimer's other muse (Keira Knightley), although still a little bit pouty. Sir Ben Kingsley doesn't seem out of place as the Prince's trusted uncle and his fee from this performance will presumably see him through his next ten low budget art house ventures.

Having cat-o-nine-tailed the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise to death, Bruckheimer has simply used the same formula and plonked it into a Persian theme, except this version is lot less snappy, lazier (probably to do with the absence of Johnny Depp). However, it is a mildly enjoyable action romp if you go in expecting just that, and it will surely be one of the summer's smash hits. If you're looking for mental stimulation then you will be disappointed. In fact, if you aren't a child or a gamer, it might be best to drink a lot (responsibly) and deprive yourself of sleep the night before viewing.

MOVIE RATING: 2.5/4 (Average) (Note: Our rating system is dynamic, we listen to the Audion's talk to rate the movie. So, kindly put your feedback by posting a comment. We like to listen your words!)
