Indian gets appointed as U.N. Special Rapporteur

New Delhi: Kishore Singh, an international law expert from India has been appointed as the U.N. Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education.

Presented by the government and by two judges of the International Court of Justice at The Hague, Singh's candidature was supported by the Geneva-based Platform of NGOs on the right to education.

Being the Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education, Singh will be responsible for safeguarding and promoting the right to education worldwide. Apart from this, an annual global report will also have to be presented by him to the Human Rights Council. The report will consist of interactive dialogue, suggestions and recommendations for advancing the right to education.

As India is deeming the right to education as a universal right, Singh's appointment to the challenging position in the U.N. is very well-timed.
