Democracy Is Soccer?
Democracy is soccer? One filmmaker from Indonesia thinks so. On the eve of the World Cup, share your thoughts in a discussion with Paul Teeple of A Ganar (Vencer in Brazil) — a cutting-edge project that uses soccer and other team sports to teach employability skills such as teamwork, communication, discipline, respect and a focus on continual self-improvement.
Paul Teeple is A Ganar's international sport-for-development director, overseeing the work of the three A Ganar/Vencer country directors. He has worked in youth development and leadership development in the Americas for more than 15 years in various roles with the Peace Corps and with Partners of the Americas. A former Peace Corps volunteer in Guatemala, he was the Peace Corps deputy director in Nicaragua and associate director in Honduras. He has been active in team sports for years, both as a player and as a volunteer coach. Paul is a native of Sparta, Tennessee, and a graduate of the University of Tennessee. He and his wife, Gabriela, have one son, Lewis Felipe. Most weekends you'll find them somewhere in South Carolina on a soccer field.
