Windows 7 sales more than Vista
Bangalore: Microsoft has officially launched its latest operating system Windows 7, which has managed to get more sales in first eight hours than Vista. The pre-order booking on Amazon has been so good in UK that it has even crossed previously held record by J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, according to TechNews.Am.
"We are extremely excited about the launch. Windows 7 has received rave reviews from industry analysts and early reviewers of the product for its simplified, faster, smarter and more secure experience. The product will now be available commercially to all enterprises across India and consumers in retail via several new OEM machines." said Ramesh G, Windows Client Director, to NDTV Profit.
Many have called Windows 7 the best and fastest operating system from Microsoft since Windows XP. PC makers are making use of the hype surrounding Windows 7 and Acer, Lenovo and HP are launching their laptops and personal computer loaded with Windows 7 on the same day. Lenovo will be offering ThinkPad and Idea-branded PCs with Windows 7. The company also announced new ThinkPad SL410 and 510 budget laptops, which include troubleshooting tools that ease system maintenance and tasks like data backup and recovery.
HP will be launching TouchSmart 600xt multitouch PC which will be loaded by Windows 7 and powered by Intel processors and is priced starting at $1,049. It comes with a 23-inch screen on which multiple fingers can be used to manipulate images, scroll through documents or zoom into maps. The PC also connects to game conoles like Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or Wii for users to play games.
Acer will be launching Aspire 5738DG which can display movies and games in 3D while allowing everyday applications to appear in their usual 2D format. The laptop has a 15.6-inch screen with a special 3D coating, as well as software and special glasses from a company called TriDef to enable the 3D experience.
Many reviewers are giving the new operating system the thumbs up, after the technical and marketing blunders the company was unable to shake with its predecessor, Windows Vista. The operating system will be released in six separate editions including Home Premium and Professional editions.
