Rosaiah refuses aerial survey

Hyderabad: helicopter to conduct an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas. While his Karnataka counterpart, Mr B.S. Yeddyurappa, conducted an aerial survey, Mr Rosaiah stayed back as he was advised against flying in adverse conditions. Mr Rosaiah, who flatly denied the need to conduct an aerial survey on the first day of floods, told mediapersons on Saturday that he wanted to go but pilots refused to fly because of bad weather.

“We lost a great leader and yet to recover from the tragedy. We will not allow the Chief Minister to conduct an aerial survey unless his visit is cleared by the agencies concerned,” said the state political adviser and public safety authority chairman, Dr K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao. The Telugu Desam had earlier targeted Dr Ramachandra Rao for not stopping YSR from flying in bad weather.

Dr Ramachandra Rao, who joined the flood monitoring activity on Friday night, said all the ministers and in-charge ministers in the flood-hit districts were working round the clock to ensure that rescue operations were taken up properly.

The chief secretary, Mr P. Ramakanth Reddy, also said there was an attempt made at 2pm to send the Chief Minister for an aerial survey in a military helicopter. “The pilots advised against the move,” he said.
