Before Diwali Burns wards in hospitals get busy

While the festival of lights, may be today, government and private hospitals are already started witnessing a steady stream of people

with burn injureies. Hand and finger injuries are especially common. Victoria hospital which is equipped with burns wards, has witnessed

several hand and finger burns cases. The hospital has treated three major burns cases in the past fifteen days.

Dr Tilak, Medical superintendent, Victoria hospitals told : ‘‘Ever since crackers have been available in the market, every day we are receiving hand and finger injuries cases. The hospital has witnessed three major cracker burns injuries. All the burns

patients are in their twenties.’’ ‘‘All the patients who have visited the hospital with hands injuries have admitted that they sustained it whileburning crackers,’’ he added. For a safe Deepavali, Dr Kaushisk, Consultant, Shanakara eye care, said, ‘‘Especially kids needs to be very careful while handling fireworks. Parents should always accompany them while bursting the carckers and precaution like keeping the bucket full of water and first aid should never be ignored.’’ Four year old Komal, from Sanjaynagar, who had suffered an eye injury

when a stone had hit her right eye, when some children were bursting cracker near her uncle's shop. She now has to wear a lens in the eye.
